Effects of administration of an organo-phosphorus compound as an antibilharzial agent, with special reference to plasma cholinesterase.

چکیده
The organo-phosphorus compound Dipterext (trichlorphon; OO-dimethyl-2,2,2,-trichlorethyl phosphonate) has attracted considerable attention during the past few years. Besides its use as an insecticide, an attempt has been made to employ this substance for the treatment of intestinal parasites (Beheyt, Lebrun, Cerf, Dierickx, and Degroote, 1961 ; Cerf, Lebrun, and Dierickx, 1962). Schistosomiasis is a very common condition in the United Arab Republic and a simplified course of treatment given by mouth would be a great improvement on the treatment in use. Hence a trial experiment was carried out to evaluate the efficacy of Dipterex in treating bilharziasis.

Recent Advances in the Treatment of Organophosphorous Poisonings
Organophosphorous compounds have been employed as pesticides and chemical warfare nerve agents. Toxicity of organophosphorous compounds is a result of excessive cholinergic stimulation through inhibition of acetyl cholinesterase. Clinical manifestations include cholinergic syndromes, central nervous system and cardiovascular disorders. Organophosphorous pesticide poisonings are common in develo...
متن کاملComputational Design, Molecular Docking Study and Toxicity Prediction of Some Novel Pralidoxime Derivatives as reactivators of acetyl cholinesterase enzyme
Abstract Background & Objective: oximes as Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) reactivators were developed for the treatment of organophosphate compounds (OPCs) intoxication. Oximes also bind to the active site of AChE, simultaneously acting as reversible inhibitors. Organophosphorus compounds (OPCs) such as soman, sarin, or VX react with acetyl cholinesterase irreversibly. In this research, a group o...
متن کاملUrine Carbamate Determination Compared with Plasma Pseudocholinesterase for Diagnosis of Insecticides Poisoning
Carbamate insecticides act similarly to the organophosphates in that they inhibit acetyl cholinesterase enzyme (AChE) at nerve synapses and neuromuscular junctions. This inhibition is reversible with spontaneous hydrolysis occurring usually within several hours [1] thus, the inhibition of blood AChE is frequently not evident at the laboratory [2]. There are two main pharmacokinetic characterist...

In this study, a commercially available kit in which propionylthiocholine is used as a substrate and a dibucaine solution to determine the variants of the enzyme were utilized. Plasma cholinesterase activity of 151 patients who underwent different operations was measured during a period of six months. The mean±SD of the enzyme activity in 150 patients was 4.39±1.17 kU/L .. Seventeen patie...
متن کاملDoes Saffron Have Antisolar and Moisturizing Effects?
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of saffron as a natural sunscreen and moisturizer. The pollens of the saffron were dried and powdered in a grinder. The experimental formulations included a homosalate (8%) lotion reference, lotions with 2, 4 and 8% of grinded saffron, and the control lotion base without saffron. The lotions containing saffron were prepared like homosal...
